In January 2022, MAFA applied for and received a grant from the Ruth and Joseph C. Reed Foundation for Art (reedarts.org) to support the Clifton Arts program at Monrovia's Clifton Middle School. This program was a volunteer effort headed by one Clifton parent volunteer to augment the art offerings at the school.

With this grant, MAFA paid for teachers and materials to provide a Random Acts of Art demonstration every Tuesday lunch hour on the outdoor quad that students could observe if they wished, and an after-school art class on Wednesday afternoons. The grant also helped to support MAFA as it presented student art competitions at its Artist Alley Gallery receptions each quarter at the Monrovia Community Center.

When MAFA submitted its qualitative research report on the impacts of the program on students at the end of the first semester, the Reed Foundation was impressed with the report and pleased with the findings. Foundation officials immediately encouraged MAFA President Christine Geltz to apply for a subsequent grant to support these programs during the September '22 to June '23 school year, which was granted in August.

Recently the Foundation's executive director Vicki Connely requested a tour of the campus, wanting to observe a Random Acts of Arts session and the Art Fence. She surprised MAFA president Christine Geltz by presenting MAFA with an award in appreciation of its dedication and implementation of art education. The award request came to Vicki as a consensus of Reed Foundation board members.

The second grant will augment MAFA's current services and deliverables for both Clifton and Santa Fe middle schools and will include a field trip to the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena and an Art Fence for Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School as well. Art teachers interested in teaching either type of sessions should contact Lisa Reyes (lisamcreyes@gmail.com), current parent coordinator, about these paid positions.

Once again, we've shown that MAFA never stops delivering on its mission: Enhance the lives of those within our community through interaction with the arts. Increase the opportunities of our children through art education.

Art gallery location: 425 S. Myrtle Ave., Monrovia CA

Display wall: We have about 24ft to work with. You don’t have to fill the whole wall with the art but you can.

Art format: The art can be original or prints but not digital. You can display paintings, drawings, and photographs.

No commission/gallery fee: The owner does not require a percentage of your art sales.

MAFA membership required: To display your art here, you must be a current Artist Member of Monrovia Association of Fine Arts. To join, go to monroviafinearts.org and click the JOIN button at the top of the home page.

Site coordinator: Eric Watkins will coordinate the art coming into the coffee shop.

To be considered, send art samples to owner by email. The owner needs to see samples of your art via photographs emailed to him at arellanoab@yahoo.com . He will notify you directly of his decision.

    If your work is accepted:

    1. Install your work: Eric is currently showing his work for the first month and installed it on nails in the wall, with the owner’s approval. The owner will eventually install ceiling-level railings with cable to hang the art. Until then, artists will be responsible for bringing their own hanging supplies and Eric will assist them.
    2. Supply a framed bio to hang up with your art: You need to supply an art bio that allows customers to get to know you and your art. The bio should include your contact info for art sales because the owner doesn’t want to handle the sales transactions.
    3. Supply business cards: We have a business card holder for your use.
    4. Leave your work up for one month and remove it after that. Eric will assist you as needed and will fill in with his art for those months that no other artist has signed up for.
