The City of Monrovia’s Art in Public Places program supports the creation of public art through a variety of programs and projects. The Art on a Box utility box enhancement program extends the reach of public art into the community by sponsoring artists to turn City-owned utility cabinets into canvases for lively art.
In 2020, MAFA artists created their community-enhancing designs on the following utility boxes:

Myrtle Ave and Pomona Ave: Carlos Chavez, Wine and Grapes

Myrtle Ave and Duarte Rd: Christine Geltz, Santa Fe Chief

Foothill Blvd and Canyon Blvd: Eric Watkins, Native Americans

Foothill Blvd and Fifth Ave: Judy Watkins, Roaring 20’s
This year the City asked artists to use a Route 66 theme for their design idea submissions. Congratulations to the following MAFA artists: They were chosen to get their kicks painting about Route 66 on boxes at these locations!
- Huntington Drive and California Ave: Carlos Chavez
- Foothill Blvd and Violet Avenue: Christine Geltz
- Huntington Drive and Fifth Ave: Christine Geltz
- Foothill Blvd and Madison Ave: Eric Watkins
- Duarte Rd and Peck Road: Eric Watkins
